Organisational development

Wildfire Concepts specialises in tools and techniques for developing your business and helps organisations find new sources of competitive advantage based on making the most of their untapped human resources. The 21st Century business environment demands that companies be innovative, engaging, and dynamic, although many otherwise promising businesses struggle to achieve these goals. Our first publication "The Path to Perspective - Rethinking Practices and Priorities in 21st Century Business" puts forward the argument that the main cause of this gap is the underlying view of business and of human nature which dominates our thinking in predominantly Western organisations. Once we learn how to think our way around the flaws in our assumptions about business, we can construct solutions which actually work, addressing the human side of business and tapping into unreleased potential. The following tools facilitate both a change in perspective about business and provide a framework for organisational change which allows companies to find new sources of competitive advantage.

What follows is an overview of the tools which we advocate - if you would like to get more information about any of these Organisational Development solutions then please click on the link which follows the subject you would like to know more about and we'll email you our fact-sheet.

Developing a Leadership platform - When we challenge many of our deepest-held assumptions about business we ealise that success, differentiation, and competitive advantage in the 21st century business context means focussing on human factors within your company. Many organisations, however, are still locked in a cycle of seeing leadership potential as residing only in the upper ranks of their business and of focussing on control-orientated management practices at all levels. If your company is going to adapt to include more people-centric practices such as innovation, adaptability, and employee/customer engagement then one of your first priorities needs to be tackling the 'leadership deficit'. Leadership - both in terms of skills and attitudes - needs to be developed at EVERY LEVEL of your business. Furthermore, there needs to be a shift in emphasis in terms of what your business asks of its managers - these important people need to adapt to become ' leader-managers' - concentrating equally upon human factors as they do resource maximisation. Wildfire Concepts believes strongly in the need to develop leadership at every level of your organisation. We can offer advice and case study examples of how other companies successfully develop their leadership potential from within.

Cultural Adaptation (or Cultural Change) - Walk into any good bookstore and the chances are you'll find a book on corporate culture and how to change it. If you know anyone who's done an MBA or you've been through business school yourself then you'll be aware that there is a lot of disagreement among experts on the subject of organisational culture, and whether or not and how it might be changed. Wildfire Concepts believes that much of the confusion which surrounds the subject of cultural change stems from over-complication, from misrepresentation, and from the use of generally unhelpful language. It is clear from the research on organisational culture that the physical and non-physical manifestations of 'the way things are done around here' within your company does impact upon company performance. Furthermore, once we begin to talk about cultural adaptation rather than 'cultural change', many of the theoretical inconsistencies disappear. Adapting the culture of your company is a long-term commitment to shaping values, attitudes, and behaviours but is nevertheless a necessary journey for most organisations to undertake in some point in their lives. We offer well- researched, well-balanced information about the realities of cultural adaptation.

Engaging People - Ever since Adrian Maslow outlined his theory of the Hierarchy of Needs, people have known and understood that once individuals have their basic physical needs met (food, clothing, shelter etc.) then they seek satisfaction on a deeper level. In the developed world, this has profound implications on how our companies should seek to engage people both within the business and on the outside looking in. Companies need to look beyond financial reward for employees and beyond functional sources of differentiation for their products. Businesses in the 21st century need to engage people on an emotional and psychological level as well as on the physical or functional level. Wildfire Concepts have developed several theories and suggested practices to help companies like yours engage people. The benefits of such an approach can be astounding.
